Outfit Inspired by Tracksuit Dracula — Hawkeye
Hold my pearls, bro.
And so ends our illustrious Hawkeye Week, in a wonderfully fancy mess of tracksuit and heels — a mashup between the old country and new. And how to style up such glorious gangsigns? By channeling our most favourite Kate Bishop, of course.
(Oh god, I don’t know what I’m doing. Send help.)

MCU Phase 1 Box Set: S.H.I.E.L.D. File & Access Card & Phillip J. Coulson’s mothefucking business card
MCU Phase One Blu-Ray Box Set
It’s HUGE. Easily the best special box set I’ve seen from any franchise, the extras and sheet craftsmanship makes this worth the hefty-ish price tag.
Note: I’ll be watching the blu-rays over the next two days, so I’ll post recaps of the movies and extras themselves.

If I was in the market for a casual Hawkeye outfit, this would be my first purchase.

Look at this asshole. I had to debase myself at the local adult arcade to win this motherfucker.
We need to sell this book, they said.
We should preview the pages with Hawkeye injured and tied up, they said.
Sold, tumblr said.
I’ve been ugly-laughing since yesterday evening about this when a few retailer folks tweeted me and asked if I knew my dog was in the letters page of the new Hawkguy book.
Imma talk with dreamboat editor, Stephen Wacker, about the choice spelling of my Twitter username. For those playing at home, @MandyBu is the correct spelling. @ManduBu sounds like a Star Wars character, and I’ve already got one of those named after me.
Anyway, this was a delight and it absolutely made my day. Pizza Dog says, “hi haters.”

Update: These people are too good.
And people wonder why Pat Loika is my favorite human.
Warning: This is going to be a rambling fucking post filled with MAJOR spoilers for the movie, so do move along if me waxing on about Schubert and The Avengers is going to make you wish you were in the Jotunheim.
During the scene in Germany, I immediately recognized what the string quartet was playing and had a private sob/chuckle to myself and bookmarked it in my brain to talk about later on Tumblr.
I can only assume this was a joint choice by Joss and Silvestri. I actually have no clue on Whedon’s use of classical music in his other properties, so feel free to tack on some comments. Also, this is completely the equivalent of musical headcanon, so I mean, grain of giant salt, etc.
Let’s start with what this is on the first level. This is the first movement (Allegro ma non troppo) of Schubert’s String Quartet No. 13 in A Flat Minor. The movement begins with a this repetitive and doleful, almost lugubrious, bowing of forward motion while a violin begins a worried melody. It’s an Allegro ma non tropppo, fast but not overly so. It sounds like someone is spinning, correct? Let’s go out on a limb and say it even represents the “poisonous dreams” of Loki and this tangled web he is weaving amongst Earth, amongst SHIELD, amongst the Avengers, and even amongst the countless lost creatures he’s mind controlling. It’s evil in perpetual motion. The plaintive melody will emerge and once again fall among the spinning of the second violin, viola, and cello.
Several music historians have noted that the first movement of this string quartet sounds similar to and draws inspiration from Schubert’s earlier German lied, Gretchen am Spinnrade (Gretchen at the Spinning wheel). The Gretchen in question is the virtuous maiden from Goethe’s Faust who is currently busy spinning continually at her spinning wheel while her mind is consumed by thoughts of Faust. To oversimplify Gretchen’s role in the story, Faust falls in lust with her and with help from Mephistopheles (the devil) seduces Gretchen. Her mother dies at her hand from the sleeping potion she administered to allow Faust to visit her home. Furthermore, anything else that could possibly happen to poor Gretchen happens and it’s basically the most unfortunate thing ever. Anyway, Gretchen am Spinnrade has a similar plaintive melody and spinning accompaniment as the string quartet that becomes hypnotic. Taking this all into consideration, you can draw the obvious parallels between Loki “unmaking” Clint and controlling him. You can even extend the metaphor to say that the Mother dying reflects Agent Coulson’s death*. Clint has been unmade. His mind and heart are not his. Loki, both a reminder jointly of Faust and Mephistopheles, is in control and is weaving a terrible web of lies, deceit, and mischief. On a more meta level, the Avengers are being unmade. This is Loki’s first step at sowing the seeds of mistrust and spite between the team. He comes into their home and destroys their heart. He references Tony’s heart literally, the arc reactor and his plans for it. Essentially, this song and this first movement set the scene for the entire fucking movie. I like to imagine this is all true and that this insane amount of forethought was put into this selection instead of Joss saying “this sounds nice, let’s use it!” I’ll leave a loose translation of some of the German text so you can see a direct correlation.
Mein armer Kopf Ist mir verrückt, Mein armer SinnIst mir zerstückt.(My poor headIs crazy to me,My poor mind Is torn apart.)Meine Ruh' ist hin, Mein Herz ist schwer, Ich finde sie nimmer Und nimmermehr.(My peace is gone, My heart is heavy, I will find it never and never more.)Nach ihm nur schau ich Zum Fenster hinaus, Nach ihm nur geh ich Aus dem Haus.(For him only, I look Out the window Only for him do I go Out of the house.)*I have a chart explaining why Phil Coulson is NOT dead. Maybe I’ll post it when I’ve been drinking enough.
REBLOGGING MYSELF BECAUSE I JUST GOT TO THIS SCENE IN THE BLU-RAY WITH JOSS’ COMMENTARY AND I FUCKING LOVE BEING RIGHT. SO RIGHT. SO FUCKING RIGHT. SO RIGHT I’M GOING TO TAKE MYSELF SHOPPING ON THURSDAY BECAUSE I LOVE BEING RIGHT.
I’m sorry. I’m just so excited. I wrote this 4 months ago. Ahhhhhhh.
